A Time-Machine Ride...
Nothing good was going to happen when one of the pack spotted an inconsistancy; heels to high, makeup overdone, overdressed. Once spotted by one, the whole pack could get involved. There would be pointing, jestering, and at worst laughing. I never had this happen, but my over cautious self saw the possibility / danger.
At our ages (not teen) we need to be ever so careful and choose wisely for the situation. I had a Talbots return this past weekend, so did push the envelope. I wore, very trendy, wide leg jeans from Loft, a peasant blouse and ballet flats.
When I tried on the jeans at Loft a few weeks earlier, I was transported back 60 years to time where tie-dye tops and "bell bottom jeans" ruled. Remember those? I started hummping a song from 1967 - "San Francisco" by Scott McKenzie.

So my time-machine trip did not garner any unwanted attention and I ask a fellow shopper to take my photo. She wanted to know where I got the cute ballet flats - validation. Reddit on how to wear big jeans: To style big jeans like a teen girl, balance the loose fit with tight or cropped tops, add cute shoes like ballet flats or sneakers, and finish the look with fun, casual accessories.

Fantastic look, Rhonda! I suspect most teenage girls are probably caught up in themselves enough that they wouldn't even notice you.
ReplyDeleteI also purchased my first pair of wide-leg women's jeans recently ... with no idea yet where and when I might wear them.They might even go out of style again by that time, and I'll have to wait another few decades for the trend to come around again!

ReplyDeleteOne thing we can count on, styles recycle. My purchase was definately an impulse buy, but, happy I did. They feel different from my skinny jeans. A great feminine differential and cute.
Did not like bell bottoms in the 60's and still dislike them. I will stay with my skinny jeans and leggings.
ReplyDeleteIn the '60s and early '70s I had some "bell bottoms" that I loved to wear. Secretly, they felt feminine to me, and I could get by with wearing them because they were in style for boys as well as girls. I recently have picked up some jeans with flair legs and have started wearing them in both femme and drab modes. My favorite jeans now are high waisted flared bottom jeans. I haven't heard any snarky comments when worn in drab mode, but I'm sure they have been noted and there are a few comments behind my back. So be it.
