Panty Hose Are Dead - Long Live...

Google AI: No, pantyhose are not dead, but their role has changed significantly due to factors like more casual workplaces and the popularity of leggings. While once considered a professional necessity, pantyhose are now often worn for a specific fashion looks, formal occasions, or to achieve a smooth, finished appearance. Fashion trends have also brought a resurgence of interest, with designers showcasing various types of hosiery, from sheer black to lace, in recent collections. [For a formal LBD is can see me wearing sheer black hose again.]

In my opinion leggings are a more versatile and stylish item for casual and even chic looks when styled correctly. The new pantyhose? The current trend leans toward higher-quality, thicker leggings and styles like slim leggings, often paired with elevated or unexpected pieces like heels or sexy tops. A dress code question came up at our store all employee meting; "Are leggings OK?"  Our store manage said, yes, just make sure your "girl-bits" are covered. That may have been meant for me.

I love the above outfit and found the perfect flats by accident at Macys. They are Easy-Spirit "Glitz Walking Shoes". The most comfortable flats in my collection. I believe I could walk a day in these. And my mission shopping that day was to get flats to wear with the shown leggings and off-shoulder sweater.  Success.

Gray is my color...

  1. While it's disappointing that pantyhose are getting harder to find in stores anymore, I do appreciate their changing role in fashion. In the past, they were simply a required (and often disliked) basic leg covering. Now, they seem to be playing a more prominent role with some fashionistas, who choose their hose based on the color or pattern, and give them more of a starring role in their outfit. It's a trend I'm most certainly enjoying:)

  2. Not gonna lie, my male self is a little envious of women being able to wear leggings with such a wide variety of outfits - from casual to really dressy. The "hard pants" (i.e. jeans, chinos, etc) of men's fashion need to be replaced with something softer and more comfortable but still fashionable. The only other option is sweatpants, which are just too super casual. Leggings would be the ideal if it weren't for the "bits" being a bit to prominent.

    3. I had neve heard of codpiece. Interesting. Here is what I found...

According to Google: A codpiece was a piece of male clothing, popular in the 15th and 16th centuries, that covered the genital area and evolved from a simple triangular flap to a padded, often ornate pouch that could also be used for protection, carrying items, or as a decorative fashion statement. Initially designed to join two legs of men's hose, the codpiece became more elaborate over time, emphasizing masculine virility and even serving practical purposes like holding medication for STIs or protecting the wearer on the battlefield.

  3. I have always loved pantyhose because they make superb leg makeup, hiding a lot of flaws. For the longest time they were a staple of my wardrobe because on most occasions I preferred wearing skirts or dresses. However, stylish pants have been winning me over lately, so pantyhose aren't required. But when I am showing off my legs, you can bet I'm doing it with pantyhose (or thigh highs).

  4. as per Sally Stone--I marvel at how many women with knobby or banged up knees ignore the flaws and go bare legged

  5. Leggings have definitely taken over, but I don’t think pantyhose are “dead” either. They’ve just shifted into more of a specific vibe than an everyday thing. Sheer black with a LBD still hits. And that outfit you put together? Total win. Flats for me. Gray really is your color.

  6. It is with a sad heart that I read this post. I have love to look at women's legs and been so envious. I also so love to wear them and enjoy the feeling that they give. Since I just wear them in private. I will still enjoy that feeling.
