Why Did We...

  1. I strongly believe it started with casual Fridays that was the beginning of the end of everybody really caring about how they looked dressed and ultimately behaved. THank you for listening Annie in Michigan

  2. Greetings Rhonda! I believe that the beginning of the end was the workplace introduction in the 1980's of "casual Fridays". That appeared to have begun the steady, inexorable spiral towards our current state of "always casual".

  3. Rhonda, I ask myself the same question all the time. Last week I was in Las Vegas and I saw to people out on the strip in pajamas and slippers. It was the middle of the day. On one hand, I think it is liberating to see people doing their own thing-not conforming, but on the other hand, it pains me to see our society put so little effort into their appearance. I think it says we are lazy.
    Hugs,
    Sally

  4. I worked in a federal office for thirty years. In the beginning the onsite manager's dress code called for shirt and tie for men (sport coat or suit) and dresses or skirts/blouses for women. There were some complaints, but people conformed. After that manager retired, the dress code changed.....for the worse. Soon it became jeans and sometimes even capri pants for my immediate manager. Being professionally attired helped with working with the professional customers across the desk. Jeans and capri pants do not project any sense of authority.
