The Feminine Differential - Comfort vs Beauty

Story and photo from the Palm Beach Post 5/12

EDMONTON, Alberta — A restaurant employee in Canada is getting support after a Facebook post went viral that illustrated gender inequality in restaurants.  Warning - the photo is disturbing.

The now-former Joey Restaurants' employee took a photo of her bloodied feet after she worked a shift where she said she was forced to wear high heels.

The woman, who is not being identified, said that her manager said that she had to wear heels, between one and three inches high, to be compliant with the company's dress code, CBC News reported.

This was her Facebook post:

To anyone I know who eats at Joey Restaurants (Jasper Ave, Edmonton location specifically). Their policy is still that female staff wear heels unless medically restricted, my friends feet were bleeding to the point she lost a toe nail and she was still discouraged and berated by the shift manager for changing into flats (specifically told that heels would be required on her next shift the following day).

In addition, the female staff have to purchase a uniform/dress at the cost of 30$ while male staff can dress themselves in black clothing from their own closets (and are not required to wear heels).

Sexist, archaic requirements and totally disgusting policy.
I have many friends in the service industry and know loads of ladies who still earn great tips without having to sacrifice their comfort while serving. I'll choose to continue supporting those establishments.

My Note: How would you feel about being required to wear 3" heels, walking and standing on your feet for an 8 hour shift?  The fantasy would soon fade.   After working at an event all evening in heels a few years back I had feet that were hurting and that was only three hours.   The after cleanup work was done in with no shoes.   I remember going home that night and treating my feet to an ice pack.  The next day at work,  flats.

High heel pain - We have all had it.
What has been your experience?

100,000 and Counting

I started this blog on July16, 2015 and on December 26, 2015 I reached 50,000 views.   Today is another number I never considered reachable.  In ten months there have been 100,000 views.  Compared to the millions the other blogs achieve this is minor, however to me this is amazing.

Writing this blog has never been about how many views.  It is to help others escape.  Do escape the fear of self-limitation and live a full life.  If this blog has helped one person who has been going through a difficult time, fear or trepidation on being the real you, then it has all been worthwhile.  We need to encourage each other and build on our successes in these trying times.

Its does get better.

I especially want to thank those who have provided guest post which are very popular.  Please keep submitting material and I will happily give you a forum.

Thank you, if you are a regular reader.  Your support, comments and contributions mean the world to me. We are all different, and we all see the world in a slightly different ways.  Let us embrace our diversity and live full lives.  Escape.  Thank you for your support.

Always feel free to comment and tell your story.  My blog is always open to you.
