Better After "A Few Days Off"

After 6 days in the hospital for something that could have been treated in less than an hour, I am home and better.  

The good news: America has maybe the best medical technology and hospitals, anywhere. People overall live longer, and are well taken care of.

The bad news: It is expensive and treatment occurs only after much CYA. The system is designed to maximize insurance billings. For those without insurance there is no safety net; go broke of die.  

From what I saw, the professionals are amazing. The system broken.

Just wanted to give an update.  Thank all of you for your concern.

What To Wear to A Palm Beach Event

 

With the showing of  the Netflix "Members Only - Palm Beach" the standard may be a little askew for outfits this season. Never have I seen such outlandish over the top looks in one TV series. I describe the overall premise as one social disaster after another; winner take all?  

With that in mind, I found myself going a little overboard on my PBHRC, Saturday outfit. The graphic off-shoulder tunic top I have had for years and not sure I have ever worn it. The palazzo pants seem to be made for the top and are the perfect complement.

Silver low heel pumps and just the right matching jewelry / purse.  Can't wait. There will be photos...

Just because you are not a Palm Beach socialite, does not mean you can't party like one. Social disaster optional.

It is PBCHRC's main event of the season and must be seen event for politicians, Palm Beach socialites and the LGBTQ community of Palm Beach /  South Florida.  

This year it is being hosted by one of the stars or the hit Netflix series "Members Only Palm Beach" home that is for sale and highlighted in the series. This should be an interesting evening for all.

Pepper-Jackson says she’s been a girl for as long as she can remember.

Becky Pepper-Jackson, the high school sophomore at the center of the Supreme Court appeal on transgender sports, flashes a grin when asked to describe the basic technique of the shot put, one of her favorite track and field events.

“It’s just throwing something that’s heavy,” the 15-year-old West Virginian said. “Far.”

That description could also apply to her blockbuster legal case.

While Pepper-Jackson sounds like any teen navigating school assignments, friends and a demanding practice schedule, the transgender girl has also been carrying the weight of a national cultural and political battle that will reach a crescendo Tuesday when the Supreme Court debates two appeals dealing with state bans on trans girls playing on women’s teams.

And Pepper-Jackson understands that — in the hands of a 6-3 conservative court that has been increasingly skeptical of transgender rights — her effort is a long shot.

So, too, is the question of whether transgender people are entitled to the same anti-discrimination protections that race and sex have under the 14th Amendment. The Supreme Court dodged that question in last year’s decision on transgender care bans, US v. Skrmetti, though several conservative justices indicated in separate opinions that they believe the answer to that question is “no.”

Pepper-Jackson and her family are aware of those challenges. But, they said, they believe they’re engaged in a longer game.

“Getting this far and bringing light to this case and showing that this is an issue,” Pepper-Jackson said, “is a win.”

There have already been numerous instances of adults — including school officials — harassing and investigating girl athletes who were assumed to be trans because of their gender expression or appearance.

I found this legal and common sense information on the site Law Offices of Crispin C. Lozano. We live in dangerous times and I refuse to be intimated back to the closet.  

Last week an innocent citizen was approach, stated "fine", "not mad at you" and was shot dead with the statement "fucking bitch".  By all appearances she was part of the LGBTQ community. There are still facts in question, however videos are coming forward that show something went horribly wrong.  

 

Without proper understanding of your legal rights and requirements this could happen to any one of us while out. The points below apply mainly to ICE enforcement although many are consistent to all traffic stops. 

A personal point of reference, I have been disrespect during a normal traffic stop and taken into custody on a mis-identification / mistaken identity warrant. At an inquiry after the incident I was told by the police, "What did you expect; your were wearing a dress."     

Below are points to remember when stopped or approached:

Are you required to pull over for ICE?

Yes. Always ask why they are pulling you over. Drivers must stop for law enforcement, including federal agencies. Immigration agents, however, often use unmarked vehicles and do not wear uniforms. Drivers are obliged to stop only when officers visibly identify themselves and signal to pull over with lights or sirens. Before you say anything else, you should ask the officers what agency they are with and why you are being stopped.

Are you required to show immigration agents your ID?

If you are the driver, you should show your driver’s license when asked. Passengers in a vehicle are not required to show ID or provide any information. Immigrants with lawful status must present immigration papers if asked. Do not present foreign identification or fraudulent documents.

Everyone in the car should assert their right to remain silent. You do not have to answer questions about your nationality or legal status in the United States.

Are you required to roll down your window for ICE?

You may roll down the window partially, just enough to communicate with officers and to pass identification through if you have it. If you fully open the window, it may enable immigration agents to reach inside, open the door or pull you out.

If ICE orders you to exit your car. Do you have to comply?

It depends. The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects individuals from unreasonable searches and seizures by the government.

ICE officers must have probable cause, your consent or a judicial warrant signed by a judge to search your vehicle or require you to exit the car. It is important to first, ask the officer if you are free to go.

Is ICE permitted to search your vehicle or possessions?

Legally, ICE cannot search for your car, pockets or belongings without a judicial warrant, consent or probable cause. You have the right to refuse a search and should clearly state it to officers: “I do not consent to this search.”

Does ICE need a warrant to arrest you during a traffic stop?

For a legal arrest, ICE must have a warrant signed by a judge ― not just an administrative warrant signed by an immigration officer. Be respectful when asserting your rights to ICE because they might escalate the matter.

If you choose to remain silent, immigration officers may extend the traffic stop or try to pressure you for information. If you refuse to exit your car, officers might use force to try and remove you. Under the Trump administration, ICE has “frequently” detained individuals without warrants and conducted unlawful searches.

Many people are being racially profiled and stopped by immigration officers based on their ethnicity. Although it is understandable to feel frustrated or angry, it is important to remain calm and respectful even if you are being unlawfully detained. ICE officers are armed, and if they perceive you as a threat, they may [will] respond with force.

Your safety and the safety of those around you is [the] most important consideration.

POLITICO:  Woman killed by ICE agent in Minneapolis was a mother of 3, poet and new to the city. 

Her ex-husband said she was no activist and that he had never known her to participate in a protest of any kind. He said Renee Nicole Macklin Good had just dropped off her 6-year-old son at school.

Huffpost  Bystander footage of the incident showed Good’s SUV being surrounded by immigration authorities and reversing, turning the wheels of her car to leave before pulling forward when an officer fired a shot through her windshield, then continuing to fire their gun several more times through her open driver’s side window.

Despite the video’s narrative, those on the right have come out to bash Good. In a post on Truth Social, the president claimed the victim “was very disorderly,” a stance he doubled down on, later saying “she behaved horribly.” Vice President JD Vance called the deceased mother “a deranged leftist who tried to run [the officer] over.”

DHS said the officer “fired defensive shots,” labeling Good a “violent rioter.” On Wednesday, Noem said the shooting was in response to “an act of domestic terrorism,” echoing claims Good “proceeded to weaponize her vehicle and she attempted to run the officer over.”

The latest video posted: Renee Nicole Good calmly said everything was “fine” and “I’m not mad at you” seconds before an on-duty Immigration Customs Enforcement agent fatally shot her in Minneapolis as she drove away, according to a cellphone video shared Friday by Donald Trump’s White House.

My Note: Is this the "America" we want to live in?  Speak up! In your next traffic stop, this could happen to you.

Not For Everyone's Taste

This outfit is not for everyone. Even with the air cool, I went for a ride a few days ago. The bike performed beautifully and I took mostly side roads. The interstate highways in this area have become the "American Autobahn" with typical traffic flow above 80mph. I have no trouble keeping up, however a leisurely ride with an ocean view is more fun. 

Breakfast that morning was at a local dive, called Harry and the Natives in Hobe Sound. A few other bikes were parked out front so I did my part to blend in. We all returned the Harley or Cruiser "V Wave" as we were riding out.  

At my local Harley store I found the  "Women's Chrome Evo Off The Shoulder Sweatshirt"; love at first sight ($45.50 on sale). I have worn it several times now and the way it drapes "Off-Shoulder" is just the right feminine differential. I have the 5-botton distressed slim cut jeans and boots. The heels on the Harley boots are only marginally safe for riding although help at stops with just a little more leg length. 

The Harley-Davidson Women's Arbury 4.5-Inch Motorcycle Boots available from Amazon are a nice touch. Described as brown (more like dusty rose / pink) they are comfortable for every day and rides. The only down side they make your foot look larger than necessary; vanity. I tried a smaller size at my Harley store and had to settle for my normal size. Amazon's price is about $50 less than Harley. A good buy.    

The jacket I threw in for decoration in the layout. Not likely a purchase, although I do like the lapel and front cut. Seldom do I need a jacket, riding mostly on sunny warm days even in winter. My new sweatshirt will suffice. If a jacket is needed for a cool morning ride, I have several jeans jackets.    

I love being able to go from an elegant Palm Beach event opener one evening, to riding my bike the next day. Be yourself. Be different. Be alive!

The year was 1982.  Tootsie was the inspiration for Rhonda. Had this movie not come out, maybe no Rhonda or not for many more years.   

Never, in times up to 1982 had I considered the possibility of getting dressed, going out, and interacting with the civilian world. If Duston Hoffman in Tootsie, with the help of a full Hollywood makeup and costume department could pull it off, why not me?  Ok, I knew better and saw the fallacy of my thinking immediately.

However, the seed was planted and I was captivated by the fantasy. Could I? Should I? Was it possible for an average "Tom" to pull it off like Tootsie? 

Well the rest is history although "Rhonda" did not blow the hinges off the closet all at once. Emerging fully perfected and fearless was a slow evolutionary process. As I look back, there were triumphs, but still "what am I thinking" moments. Panic, became just fear and finally a new found solace emerged.
