The Bumbling Clowns

The Raw Story: These bumbling clowns were so inept Iran's hardliners could barely keep straight faces

Opinion by John Casey

There is an old American idiom for a group so collectively inept they couldn’t organize a one-car parade, as another axiom goes. We call them the Three Stooges. They were a legendary comedy trio famous for their chaotic, physical slapstick and for being a cultural shorthand for lovable but total incompetence.

After watching JD Vance (Mo), Steve Witkoff (Curly), and Jared Kushner (Larry) stumble out of Islamabad empty-handed, having failed to end a six-week war, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, or extract a single meaningful concession from Iranian hardliners, the comparison feels apropos.

My Question: Are we or the world better off today than we were six weeks ago?

  2. lunatics so crazy that they unleashed a barrage of missiles on their neighbors for no reason 6 weeks ago and murdered 45,000 of their dissenting citizens--you want them around for the next 10years? We'll be" better off" in 10 years? Obama didn't think so

  3. when one needs to use terms like the 3 stooges versus a solid argument about the negotiation process it really reflects on the writer who is incapable of dealing on an intellectual basis

  4. The three least qualified negotiators ever. Vance - no previous diplomatic experience.- Kushner lacks traditional diplomatic experience and relied on business relationships, raising potential conflicts of interest. Witkoff's critics, including some U.S. officials, cite his inexperience, with a "rogue actor" style, and does not have specialized knowledge in complex foreign policy.

Critical to the process is that early and current efforts lacked negotiators with nuclear expertise to lead talks on Iran’s enrichment program.
