The Palm Beach Post:
$218 million
The cost of Alligator Alcatraz, a detention facility in Florida, is estimated to be $218 million. This amount reflects the state's investment in converting a remote training airport into a detention center. If the facility were to be closed, the costs to shut it down would be between $15 million to $20 million immediately, and potentially another $15 million to $20 million to reinstall structures if allowed to reopen.
According to AP: The amount — to be fronted by Florida taxpayers — is in line with the $450 million a year officials have estimated the facility will cost.
