♪It is [not] Alright Now♪

We baby boomers have failed the nation. Whether it be greed, racism or _____ (you fill in your reason), we did not stop the hate that Trump propagated. Don’t think he was unstoppable; he was! Our generation stopped an unjust war.
My only hope is that the ensuing damage will not be so irreparable that the next generations will be able to salvage the republic. We are all aware of Benjamin Franklin's quote “...if you choose to keep it”. Tuesday many choose not to keep it.
Voted in: The first, felon President. The first President that orchestrated an insurrection against the constitution. The first President that so disrespected women that he was convicted of being accountable for sexual abuse. The first President convicted of falsifying business records (34 felony counts) for making hush money payment to porn star. The first President that shared classified military document with civilians after leaving office. And, more.
My blog has been about being authentic and living a life free of fear. Our paranoia now has a name and a champion. He has the ability to choose and place official that can make our lives difficult, if not impossible.
Did my Blog make a difference? Not likely. Few and none ever commented on anything political / relevant I wrote; feedback seldom occurred even when I ask. I accepted that early on. However, blogs cannot exist in a vacuum.
Nine years - 3,500+ post and nearly 8,000,000 views. And, I am not sure I have made a difference.
Do I continue to just post photos of shoes and cute outfits and leave out the warning about challenges to our ability to wear the, “shoes or cute outfits”?
I am going to take some time off to consider what is next…
Like Rick Nelson said:
I think your efforts make a difference. I, for one, am grateful for your work. But we all have to realize that an electorate (we, The People) will, like Freud postulated, be motivated to take action...i.e. vote...by either love or fear. Dumpf did an excellent job of. building fear within the electorate. Fear of Venesuelan gangs, hoards of terrorists, rapists and murderers freely coming into our country. Not just the odd few but "by the millions" (he said). Scantily clothed drag queens indoctrinating our children in the "homosexual lifestyle" and even worse, "transgenderism." Men and boys lurking in your daughter's locker room just waiting for a chance to....you can finish that sentence for me. Better yet, men and boys competing against our daughters in high school, either injuring them in the competition or, even worse, preventing them from winning a big scholarship. And therein is something we can learn about We, The People. More than abortion rights, immigration, Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, We, The People, are motivated by the fear of losing money to inflation, taxes, Big Government, and Climate Change. Screw equal rights, abortion rights, and rights in general. "Not if it costs me money. The hoards at the gate are just waiting for an opening so they can come in and replace me." All this time we, and the Dems, are thinking the Electorate is motivated by love...by doing the right thing...by voting for decency, fairness, equality. Wrong! We, The People don't really give a rat's ass about all that, Look, I grew up in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh were always bastions of Progressive (but not Hard Left Progressive) thinking. But, the rest of the state I called "Pennsyltucky" was as backward as they come. As you can deduce from the election results, Pennsyltucky has lots of company...most of the nation, in fact. If we are ever going to make progress, we are going to have to devise strategies that deal with the the true, American Electorate which is motivated by fear, money, and above all, self-interest. It's not a pretty picture, but it is, as the pundits say, what it is. Like Jerry Garcia sang, we just have to keep on truck'n.
ReplyDeleteYours is the second posting I read in the morning. What am I to do???
ReplyDeleteIf you resume I hope I find you. I will miss your ramblings.

ReplyDeleteYou are right, I hardly ever comment. My fault that I took you for granted. I certainly understand the many reasons why you might want to pull the plug. It is not easy to create something every day through over 3500 posts. So, I thank you for giving me smiles ,the occasional chuckle and often something to think about. Good luck while you navigate through life. I will miss reading your words of wisdom in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI read you every day. Like many others just because we don’t comment doesn’t mean we’re not here. Political dressing makeup outfits shoes. Which spoke of the wheel is most important? Pumpkin Prince isn’t in office yet. Your life your choice. You’re familiar with the history of the French Underground. Can’t believe there’s so many assholes out there. Always know you have been appreciated and loved and enjoyed.

ReplyDeleteWell I read what has been said. I had six paragraphs for a answer then deleted it. The bottom line is nothing is going to change. He is not Hitler. We still have laws in this county and we still have our civil rights. Even my conservative friends would be mad if he tried to take away our rights. It’s all fine. But please quit calling people names...not good for our visibility. Love is better then hate!..right pennsyltucky!
ReplyDeleteWhich name calling did you not like - Felon, misogynist, insurrectionist, liar, serial adultier, fascist, business failure, raciest, rapist, fear mongerer...
DeleteFirst time here, and I discovered the blog by warning of pending darkness. It is about self-interest. I don't like it any better than the next, but if it comes down to keeping the house and enough food, pay the bills etc, well it doesn't matter if the girl gets out to play. I am more worried about keeping a roof over me head and food on the table than I am about getting beaten up in the streets. And yes, cut the name calling. Differences of opinions doesn't have to and should not make us enemies.
DeletePlease keep on publishing. I really enjoy your blog and I probably haven't posted anything political because I didn't want to start a bloody war of words on such an otherwise polite blog. I didn't vote orange or red; not because of your blog but your blog assured me that there are people everywhere that shared by values and views. thank you very much!
ReplyDeletethis election was not about us. Dem analysts acknowledge that they ran a lousy campaign ,were out of touch with the voters and lost the blue collar voter to the GOP. One long term editor in the Wall Street Journal who has hammered Trump for the past 2 years wrote a few weeks ago that the race was between awful and empty.
ReplyDeleteHarris was an empty vessel so don't rehash how terrible Trump is- Put the blame where it belongs-=on the DNC
I don't see gay folks shuddering in fear and we too have nothing to fear as most folks are live and let live. Is anyone stupid enough to think any thing will be done to hinder the way we live? The current and past 2 Presidents attempted other actions that were slapped down by the courts
On the other hand-if continue to push the fantasy that transwomen are equal to girls in sports we will generate all kinds of hatred and adverse actions. That is not live and let live and there are millions of parents who are ticked off and we will pay for it

I feel very sad that you are all being put in the situation created by the unenlightened and the ignorant. It is truly amazing that the people of a country that leaders will have us believe are good and kind, and yet have been swayed by the lies perpetuated by the brain washed few led by a crook. Here in Australia, governments of all persuasions, are all for the right for people to be who they want to be. All are welcome here.
ReplyDeleteHiding and disappearing from public view is what the transphobes want us to do. I for one refuse to do so. Gay folks achieved marriage equality by not hiding their selves but rather by being out there and showing folks they were not scary. Once upon a time even California passed a law prohibiting marriage equality and gay teachers but things change. Many people changed their minds when they discovered they had a relative or friend who was gay. We need to show the world that we are normal folks but with a little difference. I hope you keep writing your blog.
ReplyDeleteYou're the one thing I read every day. I don't comment much anywhere. It's hard to create something in a vacuum, and as an actor, I understand that I have to create art first-and-foremost for me because I'll rarely get feedback or engagement. But rest assured, art, as well as your blog, change people and the world. We've all gotta do what we've all gotta do with this one self and precious life. Blessings to ya.

ReplyDeleteWe must stand up and be counted. However, this doesn't mean that those that can go stealth, shouldn't preserve their ability to go stealth if needed. Those of us that have been public can be easily identified by troublemakers, so we might as well stay in the open and fight.
In your shoes, I might want to leave Florida, as your state will not protect your rights. In my shoes, I am looking at several ways to acquire second passports, so that I can bail on the US if the worst happens. (I am all too reminded of what happened in Central Europe 90 years ago, and how people like us were targeted.)
Right now, I plan to live my life in the open for as long as possible. But if the day comes that I can't do so, I hope to be able to move enough of my resources out of the US and try to ride out the maelstrom in a safe place which respects my rights.
For those who think they can go to Canada, put that thought out of mind. I have two words for people who may think of that nation as a sanctuary: Anschluss Österreichs. Austria (as a whole) did not want annexation by Germany, but it acquiesced anyway. Does anyone think Canada could resist the US?
I will not run! Yes, this is like history repeating itself. Guess some did not learn or slept through that lesson.
DeleteThank you for sharing this insightful post, Rhonda. The question of "to be or not to be" resonates on so many levels, especially when it comes to embracing our true selves and finding peace in our choices. It's a reminder of the courage it takes to confront life’s uncertainties and stay true to who we are.

I guess I am late to the party by ten days. Maybe, this country needs a dose of Donald Trump. As a baby-boomer born in 1947, and growing up in New York, I had many friends who lost family in 1930's Germany. My parents and grandparents experienced the Great Depression and World War 2. My grandparents were immigrants and endured World War 1. What have the younger generations endured? Hardly nothing. This country has not endured a collective bad experience for quite some time. It has been selective bad experiences. Since the draft ended those who bore the brunt of armed conflict volunteered for it, whether it was justified or not. This country may be on the road to watching their friends, family and neighbors torn apart by Trump because he is a self-avowed racist. Don't think his actions will not affect you. Those headed for deportment, imposed or self deported, have taken those jobs established Americans will not work: low paying hard work, just like my grandparents worked when they immigrated to here in the early 1910's. The brown-shirted followers will be out in force, The question will be, whether you stick your neck out to counteract them? Time will tell.
