I bet you did not know she had a song in 1957.
She is truly an icon.
Here is an interview for the 80's.
Even in her later years notice how articulate and charismatic she was.

Fascinating interview!
ReplyDeleteThe song reminds me of "One Eyed, One Horned, Flying Purple People Eater." In fact, that was what I felt I might have been in those days - a freak. She was an amazing woman to have done what she did. She was truly a pioneer, even though she said that it wan't her intention to be one. It was just what she had to do for herself, and I can totally relate to that.
ReplyDeleteJanuary 1971whilst recuperating from an appendix operation I got up the courage to visit the sleazy Tivoli cinema where they had possibly mistakenly shown a biopic about Christine Jorgensen. That movie showed me that I was not delusional even if the medical "profession" clearly was. Three generations on that medical "profession" and the media driven population still have their heads firmly buried in the sand as dumb as the flatearthers!
ReplyDeleteThree decades of depression followed my medical rejection all those years ago but this marvellous pioneer finally lead me into the light.
There was a brilliant stage play lip sync performance by Bradford Louryk to another recorded LP interview! Sadly there is just a short clip of the show I saw a dozen years ago, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrEdqs6xKeE
The biopic can be watched on You Tube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raRBfbR5Zfk
As you say, it is never too late...
