The Humble Selfie

Selfie with holiday decoration still there

Being stuck at home doesn’t stop us from dressing up. In fact, there are lots of reasons to get out of jeans, sweats and pajamas – zoom meetings, hair cuts, grocery runs, getting the mail, car club, beach walks and mirror selfies for the gram!  Just this week I had my hair styled, and blow dried.

After returning to the beach house, I wanted to remember how my stylus did my hair with a hope to be able to recreate her master-piece. Not having years of experience with hair I am lost. Sometimes, I just let it air dry after shampooing and occasionally attempt to blow-dry it myself. I can never make it look as good as the salon does.

The mirror selfie is fun and a reason to get dressed. Yes, check out our new outfits.  Above is a mirror selfie I took a few day ago.

The EverPretty Blog has a post - Why Mirror Selfies are So Popular and How to Take the Perfect One.

Mirror selfies have been around since the dawn of the camera phone and may even be responsible for the rise of the #ootd phenomenon. Before influencers hired professional photographers, most started their journey posting low quality mirror selfies. For the last few years mirror selfies became a bit passé as the quality of smart phones as well as fashion influencer content proved. But lately we have been seeing a resurgence. Why? The reason is very simple. Taking a mirror selfie is easy. You only need a smart phone and a mirror, then you can take it anytime, anywhere. No more concerns about bad weather, too many miscellaneous people, or impatient photographers. What’s more, you can just cover your face or a part of your face with the phone if you don’t want to show it or don’t know what facial expression to make.
