Jazz Concert at Flagler Museum

Rhonda
  Flagler Museum's Music Series 2022

Tuesday evening I attend an interesting Jazz Duo Performance by the GRAMMY award-winning trumpeter John Daversa & Jazz piano artist Tal Cohen. This was part of Flagler Music Series 2022.

I have always enjoyed the Music Series and have been attending since its inception in 1999.

For the last 23 years The Flagler Museum's Music Series has been almost exclusively classical chamber music. This year, as a return from Covid restrictions, the Museum tried something new.

Partnering with the  Frost School of Music at the University of Miami,  the Music Series lineup included both Chamber and Jazz performances. Both graduate students and professors performed together. Tuesday night was Jazz.

One of the most interesting feature of the evening was John Deveres (the trumpet player), on several pieces, utilizing a Electronic Wind Instrument (EE-wee). I had never heard one and it is an amazing versatile instrument.  He played using his breath and utilizing his fingers much like a flute player, he created, base, bassoon, trumpet sounds and harpsichord melodys.  Fascinating music that fit well with the jazz program.

My favorite of the evening was a long jazz rendition of "On A Clear Day".

A very memorable evening.
