Rececca Root - BBC Actor

Rececca Root in the Movie "The Danish Girl"

I am sure that by now many of you have seen the Danish Girl.  It is out in DVD/Blue-Ray just in case you missed it in theaters.   The movie is lovely and, in my opinion, the best movie of the year.  The story was tastefully done and represented well our infatuation with female presentation.  The one scene where Lili passed by racks of ballet costumes and gently and erotically bushes then, is incredibly telling.

There is likely one supporting actress you may have missed. It is the transgender actress Rebecca Root playing the part of a nurse where Lili recuperating.  Rebecca also plays the second lead in the BBC comedy “Boy Meets Girl”  She describes it this way; “It’s the first mainstream UK sitcom to cast a transgender actor in a lead transgender role.”

In Boy meets Girl, Root plays Judy, a transgender woman in her 40s, who meets a younger man in a bar. We see his reaction when she breaks the news that she is transgender and the show is about how they navigate that - Especially the reactions from the two surrounding families.  I have written previously about “Boy Meets Girl” so catch up here.  The stories are funny and so well done.

There is a great article on Rebecca here with much insight:

  1. I bought the movie on Blu-Ray. It is very moving. Such a sad ending. I would recommend "The Danish Girl" to anyone with an open mind.
