Alumni Evening - Society Induction

My 50 Year Pin
My VCU Alumni Weekend came to a close with the 50-Year Alumni Society induction. This was my year. This evening was special because we are the last 50 year class to graduate from Richmond Professional Institute (RPI). The School has gone on to much greater academic fame than we could have imagined as Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). It was with much pride we celebrated that evening, our 50 year milestone.

There were about 60 in attendance for dinner however, some had been previously inducted into the "Golden Circle". Nine of us were celebrating our 50th graduation anniversary this evening.

We were all there to remember what is known now as the Monroe Park Campus of VCU. Tremendous expansion has occurred however, the charm and adventure of an urban campus remains. Many of the old building are histrionically preserved/protected in what Richmond calls the "Fan District".  A blend of old and new.

As I walked on the campus several times during the weekend I reminisce about "Getting up late and rushing through cobblestone alleys to get to an early class."  Could it really be 50 years?  The cliche, "seems like yesterday".

The microphone was passed that evening as many of us remembered and shared fond events from being so young.  My comment:

I was a kid from the country in awe of being away from home and in the city. I met new people that became my life-long friends. I was taught in a field that became my career. RPI/VCU prepared me well for that career and life. I will be forever grateful. RPI has changed in the past 50 years; As have I...
